Dr. Garvin began her medical career working for five years as a Registered Nurse. While working in the PICU at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington DC, she decided she wanted to change her provider role and expand her knowledge base. She completed her pre-medical studies at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, before attending University Of Maryland Medical School in Baltimore, MD, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2006. Her interest in Emergency Medicine took her and her family to the University of Cincinnati for residency. Having always enjoyed the challenges of critical care, she developed an interest in Neurocritical care and completed a Neurocritical care fellowship in 2012. As faculty at the UT Health San Antonio, she is the Neurocritical Care Division Chief as well as the Neurocritical Care fellowship director. Dr. Garvin also continues to work clinically in the emergency department. Dr. Garvin is also involved in teaching; directing medical student rotations in the neuroICU and lecturing throughout multiple departments in the university as well as locally and nationally. Dr. Garvin also does work in resuscitative care as the chair of the hospital Resuscitation Services Committee and is also active hospital and University-wide on a number of administrative and service levels.
